In September 2022 I completed the £380K refurbishment of this Grade II Listed brand flagship in Bank, London for Revolution Bars Group.

The site layout was proving difficult to operate at peak times, slowing service and frustrating guests, in addition to an aesthetic mis-match between the brand, building and local customer base.

In response it required a unique design approach for the cocktail bar brand, considering it as a stand-alone site with a different value offer. Following strategy meetings and research, the design approach took cues from the original interior, designed by architect Edwin Lutyens in the 1930's for Midland Bank to elevate and mature the experience provided.

By peeling back the layers of modern visual clutter as far as practically possible and introducing minimal aspects that enhance guest comfort, the site has regained its original spirit & elegance.

Bold jewel-toned, but playful colours, sumptuous textiles and textures, run throughout to conjure an air of elegant mischief to the rebellious brand.

Guests will find plenty of comfortable corners to retreat to with reeded glass screens, a subtle nod to 1930's banking when more intimacy, or solitude is required. The bar area was opened out providing spaciousness for peak time networking and mingling.

The mezzanine level provides plenty of bespoke plump velvet seating seating for meetings, after work drinks, events or dining, all whilst still enjoying the atmosphere of the bustling bar space below.

We worked with a local heritage officer to agree finishes and fixtures, for example carefully matching the small amount of original mahogany wall panelling to FSC available species.

Precendent required film to the windows to be replaced, designing a bespoke Art Deco inspired pattern utilising elements of the brands logo to create a stained glass effect.
